Lutra Consulting Ltd. is hiring a Geospatial Systems Engineer for a fully remote position. This role is aligned with the UK timezone and offers a full-time, flexible schedule.
The primary responsibility of this role is the deployment, administration, and maintenance of the open-source GIS infrastructure used by Lutra and our clients. Our stack is based on PostgreSQL/PostGIS, GeoServer, QGIS, and Mergin Maps. Most on-premises deployments occur within Windows-based enterprise environments.
This role combines elements of systems administration, database architecture, and performance optimization. While experience with geospatial technologies is helpful, it is not required for the right candidate with a strong infrastructure background.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and maintain geospatial infrastructure (e.g. Mergin Maps)
- Configure and maintain services on Windows Server environments
- Operate and troubleshoot Java-based server applications (e.g. GeoServer)
- Assist migrating clients from proprietary systems to an open-source GIS stack
- Assist with troubleshooting, performance tuning, and operational support
- Develop scripts or tools to automate data migration and operational workflows
- Work with internal teams to standardize deployment practices
Requirements
- Professional working proficiency in English (B2 or equivalent)
- Experience with Windows server administration
- Experience managing server applications and services
- Database administration experience (PostgreSQL ideally)
- Good understanding of Docker or containerized environments
- Familiarity with Java-based server applications (running and troubleshooting JVM services)
- A proactive attitude with a strong desire to solve problems and learn new technologies
- Basic scripting and automation
